Euro MP Paul Nuttall is backing a campaign to save Green Belt land in Salford.
The core strategy proposal of Salford City Council to use 40 hectares of grade one agricultural land at Barton Moss, Eccles, for warehousing and industrial premises, is the subject of a local major opposition campaign.
Mr Nuttall, UK Independence Party MEP for Salford, is backing the ‘Save Our Green Belt’ organisation and is lending his support to the campaign committee.
“I quite agree that this green ‘lung’ should be protected and this land would be better suited to growing produce rather than yet more urbanisation,” said Mr Nuttall.
“There needs to be a careful balance between business development to create jobs, wealth, housing needs and other building projects.
“However, UKIP is committed to protecting the Green Belt in particular and the countryside in general. Our planning policies were designed to reflect this. We think local people should be able to control the management of their surroundings.
“Our policy on Green Belt development involves the formal planning process being placed under local, democratic control and when a contentious issue is involved a local referendum could be held to decide the issue,” he said.
“There is clearly considerable opposition to the proposal and the council must take notice of the views of local people”, added Mr Nuttall.
New immigrants are arriving into Britain at the rate of over 1000 a day. UKIP believes in a five year halt to immigration, so UKIP would put a stop to this mass immigraton.
But the big three believe in fully open borders, and therefore homes are required for all these new arrivals. When the cost of a house is normally much more than £100,000, true cost of open borders begins to become clear.
Unless there are restrictions put on the 500 million EU citizens, that have the legal right to live and work in Britain, then we will have to concrete over much more of the beautiful green parts of England.
