Hague On Form

William hague really is a master orator when he is on good form. Thanks Obnoxio for bringing this clip to my attention…

What makes Hague so great is that he manages to make brilliant points which pepper his speeches. He also has a fantastic ability to wear a smile while savaging the opposition.

A key point in this clip comes around 4m 40s. Hague point out that Brown, who annoyingly bangs on about democratic renewal, has appointed a whole bunch of unelected Lords to cabinet.

But this next bit (5m 35s) really gets my eurosceptic juices boiling over – The new Minister for Europe, Glenys Kinnock, is also an appointed Lord. Hague says that after years of all sides of the house calling for better democratic scrutiny of EU decision making (really?), elected members of Parlaiment will not be able to question the Minister for Europe at all!!

And in the current economic crisis, Lord Mandelson is also removed from democratic scrutiny by the House of Commons, despite heading up a vast new empire across Whitehall.

What a shambles.
